Anderman and CUMI bring new R&D to abrasives in the superalloy and investment casting industries.

For many years we have worked closely with the superalloy and investment casting industries, supplying the advanced refractories – launders, tundishes, distribution boxes – that transport molten metal through the production line.

Having developed an in-depth knowledge of these sectors, it seemed logical to apply that knowledge further downstream, at the primary processing stage: when the cooled ingot has been cut into bars or billet and its surfaces prepared for the next stage of its journey, be that a turbine blade or a bespoke aerospace component.

Hence our latest collaboration with our strategic manufacturing partner CUMI, focussing on its abrasives division. Established in 1954, CUMI has state-of-the-art facilities and a proven track record in producing high quality vitrified and resin bonded abrasives.

Experts on hand

As the processes in super alloys and investment casting are so specialized, we have brought in our own team of experts to help you.

A team with over 20 years of experience in the manufacture of loose grain abrasives, as well as the many applications of bonded abrasives, used in all your cutting, grinding and polishing tools.

Engineers who know that when you invest in intensive research and development to create an exclusively formulated Super alloy, valued at about U$ 90,00 / kg, you want the minimum waste in the primary processing stage. The quality of the abrasives you use should be unmatched, cutting each alloy bar cleanly and leaving the surface smooth and free from contamination. Without the best abrasive tools, you’ll waste that precious alloy. For $90,000 a ton, that’s something no one can afford to do.

Our team of engineers travels regularly to India, working closely with the CUMI research and development team. Pooling their knowledge, they put a wide range of abrasive materials and processes to the test.

High temperature insulation using innovative fibre free thermal insulation material - Thermcell.

Developed through patented high temperature insulation technology, ThermCell stands out because it brings together a number of properties which give you the edge at a technical and human level.

Fibre free and lightweight, up to 1700°C
ThermCell is fibre free heat insulation material which functions well at high temperatures and has a low density.

The material’s unique porous structure gives it excellent thermal shock resistance over a wide temperature range, up to 1700°C / 3092°F. This translates into faster firing cycles, which will deliver higher yields and energy savings.

The fact that ThermCell is fibre free also guarantees consistent product quality in the extreme heat of the glass industry.

ThermCell is available in rigid standard boards, 450mm x 300mm, with four thickness options. We can also produce bricks and customised shapes on request.
