Abrasive Products

Anderman Industrial Ceramics in collaboration with Carborundum Universal Madras India Ltd (CUMI) has developed a range of bespoke abrasive products e.g. industrial grinding wheels, suitable for use in the finishing of high performance nickel based super alloy materials. CUMI is one of the worlds leading manufacturers of abrasive products, with many state of the art production facilities within the group producing more than 20,000 varieties of abrasives.

An Abrasive is defined as a substance which grinds, cleans, scours, abrades or removes solid material by rubbing action or by impact. Abrasives are mineral like materials available in different shapes, sizes and types according to need. In the super alloy market sector high quality, cost effective performance is demanded of all products in the supply chain.

Our products fall into 3 categories:

1) Bonded Abrasive Cutting / Industrial Grinding Wheels

Bonded Abrasives are a mixture of abrasive grains, fillers, and bonding materials. These are supplied as industrial grinding wheels or cutting wheels used for stock removal, grinding, weld blending, cutting, bevelling, sharpening, and precision finishing.

Wheels are available in a range of coarse to fine grades specifically developed for use with high nickel content alloys. Each product is designed to give a specific finish, speed of cutting, and stock removal or cutting requirements.

Our cutting / industrial grinding wheels can be made from a diameter of between 10 mm to 1200 mm with thickness ranging from 1 mm to 650mm.

Materials include silicon carbide, alumina oxide, zirconia, sol gel ceramics, diamond and cubic boron nitride.

2) Abrasive Blasting Media and Grit

Abrasive blasting is a mechanical operation of cleaning or preparing a surface by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material on the surface using a compressed gas (typically air) or pressurized liquid (typically water) as a propellant. Abrasive grains used for the blasting operation ranges from coarse grits to micron sized particles depending upon the operation and desired results.

Typical materials supplied are white and brown fused alumina, silicon carbide, synthetic fused alumina, alumina zirconia composite.

Applications:

  • Inert shell lining in wax casting production
  • Cleaning of cast ingots
  • Surface etching
  • Turbine blade blasting
  • Polishing / cleaning of Heat treatment castings

3) Coated abrasive belts and paper

These are manufactured by depositing grains over a backing material like cloth, paper or fibre. Depending on the requirement of the customer, the backing material and type of grains will vary. There are various types of grains like sintered aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, zircon, emery and flint.

Coated abrasives are used in light polishing for investment casting and powder metallurgy processes producing components for automobile, aerospace, power generation and medical parts production.
